John needed to go to Napanee, Ontario for business so we figured since we are on summer break why not just tag along, eh? Driving up to Canada went very smooth. We stopped for breakfast at good (or not so good) ole McDonald's and of course had a few bathroom stops along the way. We made pretty good time and before we knew it we were at the border! We had checked, double checked and triple checked to make sure we had our passports and birth certificates and everything else we may need to cross the border. Confident we'd have no issues we cruise on up.
Lady to John: Why are you coming to Canada?
John: For business and pleasure
LTJ: What kind of business?
John: Technical support
LTJ: Do you have a work permit or work documentation for what you will be doing?
John: Hmm, no?
No. Not once did we even think of this!! Of course it makes perfect sense as just any one could cruise on up and say they are coming in for business. We are handed a little orange slip and we have to pull off and go inside the customs building. Once inside we were told we HAVE to have some sort of paperwork faxed to prove that we are coming in for what we say we are. John was lucky enough to get a hold of someone he works with and have a work order faxed over. After much thought and studying of the paperwork she finally gave us the go-ahead as long as next time we are sure to remember to bring our documentation with us. Whesu! Just when we thought we'd thought of everything.
Enjoying some of the site's on our drive up to Napanee
Joel decides he needs a tape mustache before we walk in.
Finally we are able to have our money exchanged. Isn't it pretty! And let's not forget gas...uh, we probably should have got it back in the U.S since we have NO idea how much we are paying?!
Passing by Toronto, just in time as it was getting pretty backed up by the time we got by.
We made it to our hotel in Napanee and we were super hungry! Lucky for us there was a fun looking restaurant right across the street so we walked over.
Our dinner was delicious!
John ordered some fried ice cream for dessert and WOW it was soo good! I think he should choose the deserts from now on. The boys were happy with jello which was fine with us, less to have to share...(evil laughter)
Watching the sun set from our patio seats, what a way to relax after a long drive...oh yeah, and our run in with customs!
Just a tip here - use your credit card - much easier than figuring out cash. The bank will do the transferring for you to US funds.
ReplyDeleteArlene, we have been using the credit card mainly but wanted to do cash too since we have the boy's with us and the experience is fun for them:)
ReplyDeleteLol about joels tape mustache lol that kids is hilarious and the money is so pretty!! Hv fun on you mini vaca!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow...bet you were wondering if you would have to turn around & come back home. Glad it all worked out for you and John was able to get the paperwork he needed. Next time you'll know! Have fun.
