A self portrait where my head covers up the interesting historic fort in the background. Which is really more important though!?
A boring picture of the fort without those two stunning people.
The fort was built on the mouth of the harbor guarding the only access to the city. A wall (pictured later) was built around the whole city which was to protect from intruders. It is 18' wide in some areas and rises 145 feet from sea level to the top in some places. The Wikipedia entry of the fort is Fort San Felipe del Morro which will give more accurate info than I can.
Standing in one of the "garitas".
A pile of cannon balls.
Looking down the wall from the waterfront. It was truly amazing.
This was a banyan tree that was growing between the lower base of the wall and the waterfront. You can see the size of it compared to me sitting on the bench in the lower left.
In one of the plazas, there were men who would give you crushed corn which you would hold in your hand and. The pigeons would fly up and land on your hands and arms or wherever they could to eat it out of your palm. He also set some on Julie's hat so they would land on her head and eat off her head. They did not "relieve themselves" while sitting on you either so there were no messes to clean up. He would also throw a handful of the corn up into the air around you and the birds would all fly up in the air trying to catch it.
A couple views of different streets. The city was built on a hill, so the streets are very steep in most places. They were also very narrow and the windows a lot of times were open. You could reach right through the windows and grab things - if you were that type of person.
Taking a break in a cat chair.
The arches at the tourist center.
Another picture of the couple we went with.
Back on the boat in front of a door that looks like a bank vault.
Crab legs and Spinach lasagna which was extremely good.
The third towel sculpture.
Great photos! I'm amazed that you could capture scenes without any people in it!! Keep them coming...
ReplyDeleteI agree! Did you photoshop yourselves into the photos or photoshop all the people out?
ReplyDeleteWe carried a roll of caution tape and blocked off the streets right before taking pictures. No, some of the prettiest side streets were away from all the hustle and bustle of the city so those are the streets we got pictures of.
