When we got to Damascus, VA we were rushed from our car into the store and right from there
to the shuttle which was taking us to the trail head. It was crazy stressful!
After a hilly, bumpy, curvy and smelly ride we arrived at the trailhead.
Ready or not! As we were about to head out our driver said "You might need your walking sticks!"
Newbies.
The terrain was pretty rocky at first, we weren't at all sure what to expect.
Lunch time
By the afternoon we came out into a beautiful clearing.
One of the things I loved most was the constant changing of scenery at this part of the AT.
This was our first water source experience. We filtered water and tried to be quick because we
were getting pretty nervous that a storm was rolling in.
It cleared off and we stayed dry...this time!
The trail was very well marked and beautiful!
We were so excited to find wild horses our first day!
Our camp was actually in a cow pasture by a stream so perfect for our water needs and
for cooking and cleaning and I was happy to be in the cow pasture because I had heard
bears don't like cows. Eeek!
Amber knows how to start the day out right, with a snickers and a snicker;)!
Another day of stunning views
We felt like we weren't even in the US. It felt like we were in another country,
it was just too amazing to put in words.
Brad and John trying to lighten their packs, Ouch!
I have laughed so hard at this picture so many times, I can't even caption it.
Met some Ohioans.
Starting to sprinkle...uh oh
We found cover in a cave under some rocks and decided to stop and eat
lunch. It rained so hard and so much we decided we had to just keep going.
Not long after we ventured back out in the rain, it stopped and cleared up.
But we had nice wet gear and boots to finish the day in.
We got to our campsite and it made everything worth it.
We enjoyed a gorgeous view during supper and even walked a little bit more
to try and see the gorgeous sunset.
It was a perfect ending to another day!
