McDonald's and the Mitchells Cafe

The boys enjoyed a magic show by Ronald McDonald at Grandma Penny's work.

The other morning Joel came out of his room all dressed up so I said, where are you going all dressed up Joel? he says, "to work!" Oh, I see...where do you work? "McDonalds"...hmm are you the Manager/Owner? "Nope I make the food." Ha- our little overachiever!

Joel all dressed up for his big day at work as a McDonald's cook!
Which leads to the next part of the blog: Jayden decides with all this McDonald's talk that he is opening his very own restaurant using only locally grown foods (can you tell this has been a discussion at our house lately? aka- Local Roots (previous blog)) So he is to make lunch this day. He heads out to the garden and picks green beans and some lemon basil. He snaps the beans, washes them, chop's up some potatoes (yes by himself-ahhh) and puts them in the steamer along with the basil. While they are steaming he prepares a dipping sauce for our bread. He uses olive oil, balsamic vinegar and some rosemary that he picked from our herbs. Then he starts on the "peanut butter surprise" for dessert. Chopped up peaches, mixed with globs of peanut butter topped with honey...which I will later admit really does taste good!!

Jayden proud of his meal:)

Yum!

The next day we had to try Joel's cafe...so out to the garden Joel headed to pick none other than...yep more beans! He decided to make fish nuggets, carrots and green beans.

(Ahh my skin)

Joel placing the carrots and beans on the tray very carefully.
Next he made a tarter sauce for our fish which turned out very good. We needed some dipping sauce for our dehydrated carrots and green beans, haha! I was trying to keep it simple. Probably not the best way to fix them.

Eating at Joel's Cafe on this beautiful day!

For dessert Joel made cookies- which had to have a "surprise" too, so he put cookies on a plate with a dollop of cookie dough then topped them with a peach. It did take Jayden a minute to figure out what the surprise was so that made Joel happy! It was nice to have a couple days off in the kitchen...if I can say that?!
