We left Layton on Wednesday after work and headed to Moab, UT
The sun setting was a beautiful sight.
It became more rocky and the scenery was always changing.
By the time we got there it was dark so we missed out on some of the views.
We woke up bright and early the next morning so we could get an early start at Arches.
Being arches at the Arches
and a normal picture.
It was a windy road back into the park with constant views. It was definitely my favorite out of all the parks.
What a view of the sun coming up.
A balancing rock
We got to the delicate arch trail head nice and early. The hike was only 1.5 miles and it was cool so quickly without thinking I grabbed my half drank water bottle on my way out the door. Wrong move #1 (the warning sign at the trail head for the importance of water should have been my first clue and our past hiking lack of H20 mistakes this trip but onward we go). The hike led us to a old cabin that was built in 1906 by John Wolfe, replacing an earlier more primitive cabin. They then sold the ranch and moved to Ohio in 1910. (See, Ohio can't be that bad)
The terrain became solid more slick slate, which as much as I LOVE my teva flip flops, they were not the best footwear for this hike. Wrong move #2
Joel falls and skins both knees and both arms so I use most of whats left in my water bottle to wash away dirt and stones and calm his nerves. Now leaving a family of 4 with 1/4 water bottle. Wrong move #3
Joel is struggling big time with his skinned knees so this hike went from great to bad fast.
We got way off the so called path somehow which again if we had read the warning sign at the trailhead we would have saw that we should follow the stacked rock to help us stay on the pathway like the one below.
We can see the arch but not the way to get to it. The view is spectacular though so helps us forget about bloody knees and lack of water for a little bit.
Jayden thinks he knows the way but it doesn't take long to realize this way may not work very well after all. Especially when his Mom is in flip flops.
Ahhh, we have found our way back to the path.
First real glimpse of the arch.
It was magnificent! (Joel even forgot about the blood running down his leg and hiked back all the way without complaining)
Taking in the view
Shadow
Views of the arch through an arch.
Jayden builds his own balancing rock tower, unfortunately on limited time so not as big as he'd have liked.
On our way back to the car we went a little off the path so we could see these Petroglyphs.
How cool is our world?
