Journey to Zion

We left bright and early Saturday morning to make the drive to Zion and we were rewarded with this sunrise!
We noticed these balloons while driving past SLC.  What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning!
You can tell we are getting close to Zion now!
Enjoying the views coming in to Zion National Park.

We boarded the busy bus and headed to the last stop on the route to hike the narrows.
I don't know why, but every time we go to a National Park we underestimate how busy it is going to be! I guess because you see pictures of these fabulous places and most times there aren't any people around or else it is just one person in a photo so you don't think much about it but it was a busy place!
To hike the narrows you have to hike down a paved path for 1 mile then it just ends at the waters edge so you either get in and hike or you turn around.
We got in and started hiking.  The ranger assured us the water wasn't very high and so it was safe.  There were area's that were definitely higher then we expected but in the end it was worth it.
John and Jayden getting on dry land for a moment.
Once your in the virgin river, your wet for the rest of the hike.  There is only a couple of places you can get out on the sides and rest on a rock or you may sit on the sandy ground but otherwise you are in between two narrow walls and there is no getting out.  I must admit I was still a  little concerned about flash flooding even though the weather report was good.
The beginning was extremely crowded but the people started to reduce the farther you got.  The views also got much more spectacular!
It was unlike any hike we've ever done.  I can't wait to hopefully come back and do the whole thing.

It was so hard to turn around even though we knew we needed to.  Every turn we would all say, ok we have to turn around. Then we would see the beauties around the next bend and go just a little farther until we could see around THAT bend...then the next one.  Finally enough was enough and we knew we still had a long way back so we turned.
 Unhappy about turning around.

Reaching the end of our Narrows hike, which was nearly 5 hours long.  The boys were starting to get nervous that we were going to miss our bus ride back to our van and that they would have to walk!
The end of a memorable first day at Zion
