John and I ventured to Hocking Hills area for our 12 year anniversary
this year for a little getaway. On our way we decided we would take our
time getting there so we stopped at this Ruggles Icecream factory that
we've always wanted to see. We also stopped at The Dawes Arboretum to
see what that was all about. It was kind of like Kingwood Center flower
garden. John couldn't resist stopping at a Benjamin Franklin we saw on
the way since he hadn't been to one in years and I don't think I'd ever
been to one!
What! Was I really seeing correctly? My two favorite things mashed together in one delicious treat....corn- icecream!
The next morning we got up and ate at this little diner we found downtown Logan. It was such a funny little place. Two sister's owned it and it was definitely your hometown little place. The food was SO so good though. I think they liked collectibles just a tad.
Once again after full stomach's we headed on some hikes. This is Old Mans Cave which was super awesome. It was a very popular hike though, there were MANY many visitors. There was also a big race going on down here this same weekend. It was called, "The Indian Run" it was fun to cheer on some runners as we hiked along. The distances ranged from 5K to 60K. It was hard not to join along:)
After Old Man's Cave we ventured to the Rock House for that hike. The rock formation was so awesome here and it was so neat to think of the different ones who must have lived here. In fact we heard one lady say criminals used to hide here.
The last hike for the day was at Conkles Hollow, the upper rim. This is NOT one I'd want to take the boys on. There were some major holes that you could slip through and if you slipped, well, check out the sign below! The views were so beautiful and serene.
After all that hiking it was time to eat again! We decided to try out the Hocking Hills Resort. Whoa was it a insanely steep drive to get up there. I thought I may have to jump out in my heels and push us up the hill! It made our ride back to our cabin look like a piece of cake! I can TOTALLY see why it is a complete MUST to have 4-wheel drive if you ever decide to head this way during winter.
I can't say it was my ultimately most favorite place to eat at ever:/. John did seem to enjoy his meal, see video below. I feel like my meal was just a tiny appetizer with a very big price tag.
This cat was our dinner companion!
The next morning we grabbed some coffee and some bakery treats from Bob Evans and found this lovely lake to enjoy our breakfast on. Well technically not "on" but near, or whatever. It was such a peaceful way to start the day and it was very private after we scared away the fisherman & woman.
After our breakfast we decided on our way home to do one more hike and so we headed to Rock Bridge. Or so we "thought". We drove a couple miles out on this pretty little road until it went no where, well not no-where but to a little private bed & breakfast driveway before we had to turn around and head all the way back into town then back onto the interstate until we found the right way to rock bridge.
We decided to kind of "trail run" to the bridge. It was such a neat rock formation! I'd say it was one of my favorite places. They were all so different in their own ways, its hard to chose one.
On our way back to the car we saw this hill and for some reason we were both compelled to cut across the fence (YIKES- trespassing, breaking rules, I think I'm having heart palpitations)to see the view. After "sneaking" up the hill and dodging cow patties we got to see the view which made it worth it. You just can't capture it on a camera though.
After our last adventure we headed back home with a few more detour's on our way. Hint: (Columbus) Chipotle, DSW, Trader Joes, Container Store....hey a girl's gotta shop:)
Looks like so much fun guys. You look super cute too of course, both of you ;-). Congrats on 12 years!!!!
