Day 2- Day at Sea

The second day was a day at sea. We woke up early to take in the first sunrise which of course was accompanied by a big breakfast.

The day was especially relaxing as we didn't have anything planned, other than lounge in the library at the front of the ship and investigate all the ship had to offer.

The library, pictures in the art gallery, looking over the rail of the promenade deck and looking down the walking track as life boats hang overhead. I was infatuated with the size of the life boats and the mechanisms that lowered them. (Little piece of Trivia: There were 16 lifeboats with enough capacity to carry over 3000 people.)

The mid ship pool with retractable roof - just like home.

After all that activity it was time for a tour of the kitchen. A lot of this was not new to us since it's how we prepare most meals and snacks.

Some of the demos were: edible arrangements, bread sculptures, chocolate sculptures and how to arrange huge chunks of cheese on a table with fruit and a carved watermelon.

What's a ship without a cooking show kitchen? Incomplete, I'd say.

We never missed tea time. It was nearly 5 hours from one meal to the next - accompanied by periodic snacking in between, so it was no wonder we had to make it there at 3 every day to get more food and drinks.

Finally, we wrapped up our hectic day with a nice formal dinner, a "toast" with the captain and a show of the Westerdam singers and dancers. Sorry no photography allowed.

Picture of us standing in the art gallery. The captain and the cruise director - apparently he set the cruise and we were just sailing along......

This was our first of 5 towel sculptures, a bunny.

  1. We're enjoying the posts! You should definitely do some posts on how you personally prepare "meals and snacks" at home. :-)
